As it is customary to greet the New Year with a kiss, I’m sharing this one with you, my diabetic friends. It’s probably the sweetest thing you should be having tonight. Also customary is the making of New Year’s resolutions. Zazzy has inspired me to try the One Goal approach. My one goal for right now is to become more physically fit. Toward that end I have already started a program of daily exercise. As a second prong to this one goal I am also considering a change in my eating habits. My blood sugars have been elevated (175-225) a lot again. I read one suggestion that I think I will try – a diet of soups for lunch and dinner. Fresh soup made each day with some good legumes and veggies can be very healthy, lo-carb, and tasty, too. So, I’m gonna give it a try, see where it goes for me. I’ve also been considering 4 meals per day instead of 3. I hate to add another sugar check and insulin dose, but I think this might give me better control. I fight the munchies all afternoon and evening. An extra meal might help alleviate that struggle. What do you think?

And a Happy New Year to you! Mind if I bug you about goal setting? This is from the Stanford workshop –
How confident are you that you can make and eat soup for lunch and dinner every day? Would it make more sense to set that goal for 3 or 4 days per week? You might consider making it a smaller goal and adding to it as you succeed.
I love soup but I’ll tell you that soup every day gets old pretty fast. Of course, my soups were limited to clear and smooth but they still got old. I posted a couple soup recipes from Tish on Chickens and Eggs a little bit ago and I’ve got a couple that I’m going to make and post soonish.
I’m a big advocate on 4-5 small meals per day. My program really wants to insist on 3 only and I will probably end up nodding and smiling and eating 4. 4 works really well for me at keeping my sugars in good balance and never letting me get overly hungry.
