I’ve been having a flare-up of my old friend pancreatitis for a couple days. And it has sent my glucose into the 200 range. When I was a type 2 being sick didn’t affect my blood sugar readings. So, I had to call the educator today and ask how to deal with this. She told me I could test every three hours and take more insulin as needed to correct. I’ve been taking shots every 3 hours all day. I’ve also been taking demerol for the pain. Not my favorite way to be. I really, really HATE that drugged feeling. They say you should learn something new every day. I’ve learned something today.

It’s a hard enough adjustment – trying to make sense of insulin while medicating for pain is just nearly impossible. We’re out here cheering you on – do the best you can, it’ll likely be better when the flair up is over.
