Educator Visit Today

I saw the educator today and got started on Humalog and Lantus.  I use a pen for both.  Hooray!!

She explained to me that I got the insulin resistance (and the whole Syndrome X cluster) from one ancestor and the Type 1 beta cell damage from another.  I commented that I was a combination of the two types.  She grinned and told me, “We call that Type 3.”  So I guess I’m a Type 3.  I still have to take Actos for the insulin resistance, but will also be taking 4 or 5 shots per day.  At least the needles on the pens are a lot shorter and finer than on the insulin syringes.  I honestly don’t feel the injection most of the time.

  1. I gotta say, Eve, although for the most part they don’t hurt, multiple shots get old fast. I’m taking three per day. Maybe they wouldn’t annoy me if they were doing any damn good.

Anyway, keep us informed about the process and progress – and don’t forget to have a kit with you and whatever you use to treat a hypo. I think we get pretty lax about that as type 2s.

  2. Don’t mix um up! The lantus/humalog is a nice way to go but they are NOT interchangable…lol I did that once… no fun. Best of luck!

  3. Good Luck :)

    wow a type 3 :)

  4. Hi There!

Nice blog. Thanks for all the great links.

Would you come by and visit me some time at http://www.diabetesmine.com, and consider adding me to your blogroll?

  5. I checked out Amy’s site. I like it. I haven’t visited the diabeticconnect yet. I have added her to my blogroll over at Adam’s Wife.

  6. Nice blog. Thanks for all the great links.

  7. Amy is an old friend of ours – she has linked to DRT way back in the Invision forum days. I’ve had her on my personal diabetic links for years. I want to visit diabetic connect and we’ll probably add it to the social links.

  8. Hey Eve, how is the BG? How are the shots working out? Inquiring minds want to know – especially as my BG continues to run high with or without reason.
