First the news, wordpress.com had a problem earlier which is hopefully fixed. It wasn’t accepting posts or edits.
Now, to try to remember the interesting and exciting post I wrote earlier. I went to see the endo today. I had a “remarkably good” hba1c of 6.9%. Although I’d prefer lower, both the endo and I were surprised it wasn’t higher. My triglycerides are astronomical and so much for grape juice helping to bring them down. He is changing my insulin from Lantus to Levemir once I use up this brand new vial of Lantus. He’s hoping for both better sugar control and better triglycerides.
As for me, I think I may have learned a few things from being on vacation. Pug and I tended to eat big, protein based breakfasts around 10AM. Then we’d be out running around and playing tourist or doing errands until late afternoon – and we didn’t get hungry. We ate “dinner” often around 4 PM and then had a light “lunch” sized meal later in the evening. And I wasn’t hungry late at night – sometimes I ate a granola/protein bar before bed. [product note, south beach diet bars are pretty good, high protein and about 7 gm sugar]
How does this apply to real life? Well, I’m going to try eating a bigger breakfast a little later in the morning. I may need a granola bar or a piece of fruit in the afternoon and then eat dinner at 5PM as is the rule here. Then I’ll aim for a sandwich or bowl of soup later in the evening and hopefully not graze late at night. I’ve been going to bed earlier too. I think being more active is important. It’s still kind of a challenge here but I need to figure something out.
So, this is The Plan™, part 3. My sugars have been better even if not perfect and I should eat less overall this way, too. We’ll see.

Your new plan sounds like a winner. Congrats on the A1c. It’s good to have you back! I just typed a very nice, new post and it disappeared as soon as I hit save. So I’m trying this as a comment, instead.
Yes, I was contacted today by the public health department. Made me feel like I had VD – I’ve never been reported to public health before. Had to give them all kinds of info about whether I had been swimming lately (I haven’t), etc. We’re pretty sure I got it from my grandchildren. They all had vomiting and diarrhea about a week after their last day in a public pool. The health department said they had had other cases come out of that pool. I was glad to know I got it from them – I was afraid I might have exposed them during the last 3 weeks when I didn’t know I had it. We now have to disinfect the house with hydrogenperoxide. Chlorine will not kill it.
I just got home today. I’ve been staying with my sister to be closer to my gastro. I started on the new med yesterday and today I was 100% better than I’ve been forever. It’s good to feel well enough to travel, and really good to be back home. I’m looking forward to sleeping in my own bed without a cat sitting on my feet.

Hi Zazzy,welcome back !
Your eating plan sounds very good and your A1C is actually very good too,I think.
“eat dinner at 5PM as is the rule here”
Where is “here” ?,if I may ask.
I’m glad you and Pug had a good time sightseeing together.
Eve,good to hear that the new med is working for you !I brush my teeth with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide now and then to whiten them. How strong is the one you use to disinfect your house ?
I received an invitation from my girl friend to come to our “Grundschule Klassentreffen” (elementary school class reunion) on Oct,31st.They usually meet every 10 years.
Some friends and our teacher died,so they thought it was maybe better not to wait for the 50th anniversary of our last day in elementary school.
Well,I’m not going to fly to Berlin, instead I will send an
embroidered self-portrait fabric postcard to my girlfriend.
She can show what I look like to my old school friends.
I found the funny embroidery design online. You know I have a weird sense of humor, don’t you !

3% hydrogen peroxide.
An embroidered self-portrait sounds like fun. I’d love to see it. I wouldn’t say your sense of humor is weird. It seems very compatible with mine.

That’s because we’re all a little weird here.
Cleaning the house with hydrogen peroxide sounds so much fun I wish I could be there! Good luck with that…
I want to see the embroidered self portrait too. It sounds quite cool to me. Oh, and “here” is at my parents’ house. I came here to do rehab and have been here longer than planned but it’s the best choice I have right now.

Hello Zazzy and Eve,if you e-mail me your mailing addresses I will be happy to send you a fabric postcard of my self-portrait too !!!!! I’m also making several fabric postcards for the SG fiber art postcard exchange. The deadline is Oct.22nd.The theme is “The Great Outdoors”.
Zazzy, living at home is not easy ! I know, because DS has been living with us most of his life.He is on a very small disability pension and it’s not easy for him either to be stuck with us.

Schnucki – I don’t have your e-mail address. Trying out new color combos sounds like fun. I’ve got a quilt top I need to finish up. Now that I’m feeling better I think I’ll get back to it. When I keep my hands busy, I don’t put as much stuff in my mouth.

Eve,please send me a private message on either the DRT forum,Stone Soup or SG with your mailing address.I will check for your PM later this afternoon.I’m leaving for my massage therapy and shopping in a little while.
Last night I was up until 2:30 a.m. stitching the same design, but with different color combinations.None of the cards I make look exactly the same.I’m stitching a few more when I have peace and quiet again, then decide which ones to make into postcards.
If you like to see one of the cards I made for the SG swap, please scroll down to the middle here

We’ve got chickens in our backyard and I enjoy a breakfast with their yummy eggs from time to time. But I don’t know if I could make such a late breakfast. I’m curious, what’s the benefit that you’re seeing with eating late?
As for chickens. If you’ve got even a small yard, they’re worth thinking about. Not only do you get really fresh organic eggs, but they’re are hilarious to watch.

Hiya Bernard! The benefit to eating so late has to do with my sleep patterns. I often don’t fall asleep until after 4AM so I’m not usually up at 6 or 7 like my food schedule thinks I should be. Unless I just haven’t fallen asleep until then. That makes breakfast/lunch times screwed up given a “fixed” dinner time.
Just to make life complicated, I am actually sleeping again. I get to bed at a reasonable time and I’m up around 8. This means a readjustment of the plan….
I’d love to have fresh eggs and my own chickens. Of course, my chickens would all have names and die of old age – provided the fox, coyote or bobcat didn’t get them. I’d probably make them little chicken hats too.
